At the invitation of his chief 2nd cornerman Bobby Sanchez, I attended the open media workout of Joseph Angel Rios at the DeepWater Academy (Boxing and MMA Gym) in Fairfield, California. Joseph conducted a light workout in preparations for his upcoming fight on Saturday, September 28th 2013 at Cache Creek Casino Resort against Bruno "Alohakid" Escalante.
Rios displayed his speed and movement in the ring and later jumped rope before sitting down for an interview with me. Rios is the former WBC USNBC Super Flyweight Champion, as well as the current Texas State Super Flyweight Champion. Rios is coming off a loss to Jonathan "Bomba" Gonzalez in March of this year but advised that he is fresh and ready to make a statement now in his career. He has beaten several undefeated fighters, stood toe to toe with one of today's pound for pound best fighters in Leo Santa Cruz, and plans on taking this fight with Escalante out of the judges' hands. Rios was very humble and appreciative of all of his fans support. Escalante is a Bay area favorite and although Rios is the underdog, a very confident Rios and his Manager Angel Cosme both claimed Rios would be victorious this Saturday.
