http://j.mp/1250EvF❗ Interview with professional boxers Rasheed Lawal, Anthony Smith, & Aaron McCain
Three the Hard Way
Interview by: Robert Quijano May 21, 2014
Today I had the opportunity to meet up with three completely different boxers who have bonded and formed a friendship while training for their respective bouts on June 12th at the Central Valley Showdown Vol. IV in Fresno, California (Fresno Ballroom at the Pacific Southwest Building) presented by One World Promotions. I travelled to Fairfield, California and met up with Boxers Rasheed Lawal, Anthony "Lights Out" Smith, and Aaron Michael McCain at Deep Water Academy (an enormous and premier Boxing/MMA gym in Northern California).
30 year old Light Welterweight Rasheed spoke about his many accomplishments which included representing Lagos, Nigeria in the 2008 Olympic Games, being ranked #6 in the World in 2006, participating and winning Kickboxing Championships in Japan placing 2nd in the World Games, fighting in Australia, and winning the Governor's belt in 2010 and 2011 in Nigeria. Rasheed exclaimed that he has only been here in the United States for 3 months but is Happy and ready to make his Professional debut. Rasheed is "Ready to Kick Ass" and make his family proud.
21 year old Light Welterweight Anthony spoke about how he plans to take this coming fight out of the judges' hands. Although his 2 defeats were of questionable judging (one majority decision loss and the other a split decision loss), Anthony took full blame for the defeats stating "I beat myself, can't nobody beat me." Anthony advised that he is "Beyond Ready" and that has been the best training camp he has ever had. Anthony was previously trained by former World Champion Tony "The Tiger" Lopez, has trained at the Mayweather "TMT" facilities last June, and is now being trained by former World Champion Otis Griffin. Anthony continued that he is like a sponge, has learned not to talk so much, and soaks up all the knowledge remaining open minded because that's how Champions are made. Anthony certainly has been privileged to work with trainers of the utmost caliber and looks to make his name known beginning with his fight on June 12th.
41 year old Light Heavyweight Aaron Michael McCain is the founder of Gladiator Boxing and is a boxing coach. Aaron was very humble and when I asked why he was returning to the ring after last fighting in 2000. Aaron stated that his drive is bringing him back, as well as his losing record tormenting him. Aaron continued that he wanted to do it while he was still willing and able to do it. Aaron has a lot of supporters and is an inspiration to his students. When I told Aaron that his opponent (Jose Alvarez somewhat local to the Fresno area) was favored, Aaron laughed and said "I'm 41 and he's like 25" referring that Alvarez had better be favored. Aaron stated in closing that his fight is the first fight of the evening and everyone should get there early because he is a "Spoiler." All three fighters promised a good show and June 12th is going to be an exciting night of Boxing action. This One World Boxing Promotions event's Tickets priced $45, $65, and $85 can be purchased at http://TICKETRIVER.com/Event/10640 or by calling (559) 301-3113. The Central Valley Showdown Vol. IV ("Throwback Thursday-A Tribute to Old School), don't miss it.
