Yesterday I travelled to the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Casino in Caguas, Puerto Rico for a historic press conference. DIRECTV Boxing Nights, an ongoing series of boxing events were pleased to announce the agreement reached with Universal Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions in association with H2 Entertainment and Roc Nation Sports to present several events showcasing the boxing talent here in Puerto Rico. DIRECTV Public Relations Manager Wanda Barrero stated that this exciting lineup of fights for April 23rd between the two promotional companies was just the first of many more to come.

The event will be at the Coliseo Rogers Mendoza in Caguas and will feature 10 bouts with the main event pitting Angel “Tito” Acosta (12-0 with 12KOs) vs. Erickson Martell (12-5-1 with 8KOs) for the WBC Fecarbox Mini-Flyweight title. The co-main event will feature Alberto Machado (13-0 with 11KOs) vs. Miguel A. Mendoza (22-7-2 with 21KOs from Aguas Calientes, Mexico). Neither Machado nor Mendoza were present for the press conference as Machado is currently training in Buffalo, New York and Mendoza is training in Mexico. Other fighters present at the press conference competing on April 23rd were Anthony Rodriguez (7-2 with 4KOs) vs. Janiel Rivera (13-2-3 with 7KOs) for the vacant WBO Latino Straw-weight title, Carlos Narvaez (13-0 with 6KOs) vs. Carlos “Machazo” Rodriguez (12-2 with 11KOs) for the WBC Fecarbox Super-flyweight title, and Jose “Chiquiro” Martinez (16-0 with 10KOs) vs. Edwin “Puto” Rodriguez (7-2 with 4KOs) for the WBC Latino Super-flyweight title.
